News from Kate – February edition
Agents facilitating the export of cars to the grey market continue to be netted by a British Columbia production order concerning cancelled policies and Canada continues to invest in wildfire mitigation in this month’s round-up of stories by Kate.
Hey there, friends. Hope you’re well!
Here are just a few of the stories I’ve covered this month. Do you have an insurance lead you’d like to discuss? OR do you require news monitoring services, yourself? We can probably help you out or refer you. Feel free to get in touch!
This month, British Columbia continues to publish regulatory decisions (sanctions) related to agents who sold Autoplan policies on vehicles for export, instead of issuing temporary operation permits (TOPs). In the various decisions, the regulator notes the opportunity that agents unwittingly created for their clients to launder money and evade taxes. Canada has also awarded a contract to Spire Global Canada to build wildfire-tracking satellites for launch at the end of this decade. For more like this, also see the article about Canada’s investment in weather radar technology, linked at the end of the article below.
Oh! Also? Open banking is a hot topic, no? The investment funds industry is interested in getting involved and regulators are seeking feedback about the rules and the role that the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) will play in helping their members make use of open banking APIs with their clients.
Note: As per usual, this is not a comprehensive list. If you’d like the complete list of everything I’ve written for a public audience, head on over to my Authory Page.
Note also that PRO indicates that the articles are behind a paywall – my apologies, but ‘tis necessary. Subscriptions keep the lights on for all involved.
Until next time!
Best,
Kate
